just a
few of the classic traditional jazz titles played by some of the original jazz greats like Louis
‘Satchmo’ Armstrong, Bud Freeman, Max Kaminsky, Bix Beiderbeck .
Many of
these tunes were revived again and again through the swing and bebop era’s to become jazz ‘standards’
and in recent times even the ‘pop’ music stars are ‘finding’ and recording these great tunes all over
again.
With a sousaphone (a sort of tuba),
a banjo, a trombone, a trumpet, a clarinet and sometimes a singer, we, the Dixie Swingers Acoustic
Traditional Jazz Band, re produce these classics without using loud, fragile and expensive sound
systems; just the way they sounded a century ago. You can listen or ignore us. It’s entirely up to
you.
You’ll notice that all the tunes we
play are easy to listen to and usually they bring a smile to most peoples faces.
We like to
break the ice as it were, so we’re more of a reception or ‘warm up’ band than main item.
Having said that we have been the main entertainment on many, many occasions.
Smartly dressed, punctual and ever
mindful of our duty towards our clients and agents, we arrive a few minutes before starting time, take
up our position. And just play. If the client wants us to play somewhere else, we just walk there and
start immediately. No fuss. As soon as we’re finished, we just melt away in a minute or two. Again,
no fuss.
Often guests want a pic or two using
us as a background. We are only too happy to oblige and give the guest a pleasant memory to take away
with them.
We don’t need lights (we can play
when it’s pitch black) or electricity (no sound system or lights) so we’re easier to accommodate than a
radio.
Worth thinking about eh?
